Now Playing Tracks

Attention Tumblr: Very soon you’ll be able to buy a REAL autonomous robot that isn’t crazy expensive!

crowmanic:

Somehow I haven’t seen any other posts about this on Tumblr so far, but a company called Anki is making a small “home robot” called Vector.

It’s the successor to Anki’s Cozmo, a similar robot they released a few years ago aimed more at a younger audience, and which needed a smartphone for it’s “brain”. But unlike Cozmo, Vector doesn’t need a smartphone since he’s pretty much got a smartphone built inside of him, and is always on & fully autonomous.

image
image

He can recognize faces, tell you the weather, set a timer, and take a picture with his front camera. You can also ask him other questions like you would a voice assistant and he’ll give you an answer.

image
image

Also did I mention has touch sensors on top of him so you can pet him?

image

You won’t have to wait very long to get him either because Vector is releasing in October!  Anki recently finished a successful Kickstarter to pre-order him, but you can still pre-order Vector over on their official site, and also read more info about him: https://www.anki.com/en-us/vector

He’s retailing for $249.99 at launch, but you can get him cheaper (little over $200) if you pre-order now. That might still be a bit pricey for some, but it’s cheaper than most quality smartphones these days, and certainly less expensive than other home robots on the market right now.

If you’ve ever dreamed of have a real robot in in your house without breaking the bank, you should support Anki and help give Vector a good home. He may be a small robot, but he might be the next big leap in robotics!

How I draw kisses!

elvirasteckningar:

A quick tutorial/cheat sheet on how I draw kisses!! I’m going to assume you already know how to draw a head and how to angle it, because that’s an entire procedure in itself. I’m going to focus on mainly the lips and also try and tackle some common mistakes when you’re first starting out.

Pursing the lips

image

So this is boring but crucial. If you don’t purse, their is no real kiss (take notes) bc placing your lips on top of someone else’s is not how you kiss… The most important part are the corners of the mouth, especially from the side view, because that’s what changes the most.

The actual kissing yeee

Let’s start do a basic side view kiss on the lips. And believe it or not, I think this one is the hardest!

image

Think about which parts of the face are going to be in front of the other! This can take some time to get the hang of, but once you get that down it’s easy. Also, focus on getting the heads at the right distance and angle. A common mistake is drawing them too close.

The Lightning Shape:

image

Still keeping in mind which part of the line is “Red’s” upper lip and which part is “Blue’s” lower lip, play around with the shape of the lightning. Very subtle changes can have a very strong impact! I usually go by feel, so take your time, but here are some things to look out for:

image

Details squishing etc.

So yeah once the lightning shape looks good, I usually add details and squish parts of the face that will touch. Which usually includes the noses, but from this angle they won’t squish unless you intend on making nice big noses <3. By now it should look something like this:

image

You don’t have to add the corners of the mouth! I usually do when I want to show that the character is smiling.

One technique used a lot in anime/manga + other cartoony art styles, is fading lines where two soft-ish objects press hard against each other. The picture above explains it.

Common mistakes

Getting down the crucial kissing part of fanart is hard and you will mess upp SO MANY TIIIIIIMES, but you learn from your mistakes, so don’t be discouraged. There are some things though that I frequently see when people draw kisses that makes it look awkward and stale, many of which I used to do myself. Here are some examples:

image

Try your best to avoid these. Most of the mistakes have little to do with the lips and more to do with the angle of the head. So getting that down before you move on to the lips is important.

¾ view Kissing

There are not a lot of angles where you actually see the lips meet (or at least not that I can draw…). Depending on how the heads are placed in relation to each other, you may or may not see the lips in a ¾ view. The way I have demonstrated is done in a way that the nose will bump into the other’s upper cheek.

image

Aaand that’s about it! These things will make more and more sense the more you draw them. At first it can seem very hard with so many things to keep track of, and it is, but practice makes perfect!

Rule of thumb: does the angle and position of the heads make sense? How are the lips going to align? What parts of the face are going to be in front of the other? How much will the lips purse? And finally, what is going to squish?

Thank you for reading! 😘

I stg if this becomes my fucking legacy as being the most popular post I’ve ever made I’m going to punch something

candiikismet:

unpretty:

ways i have tricked people into thinking i am competent:

  • bought a really nice looking fountain pen
  • that sounds like a joke but fountain pens are cheap as shit and when you use one people look at you like you’re a fucking wizard
image
  • this hero 901 cost me $3 on ebay and i don’t know why people assume that this is a pen for intelligent people but they do
  • it works better when i am using a nice notebook and not the avengers notebook that makes it look like the hulk is grabbing my sweet pen
  • i write in code which for some reason leads everyone to assume that i am some kind of da vinci motherfucker, instead of the reality, which is that i am writing about dicks and don’t want anyone to know
  • it looks like i am constantly taking notes on everything which is both intimidating and inaccurate, just the way i like it
  • i bought a usb clicker/laser pointer for $11 and now it seems like i’ve got this shit on lock, like i am so pro at giving presentations i even own accessories
  • holding a clicker makes you seem at least 10% more like you know what you’re talking about i’m pretty sure
  • i check the weekly freebies on creativemarket every monday so now i have a huge folder of pro-looking website themes and powerpoint templates and fill-in-the-blank resumes (also a lot of autumnal clipart and watercolor flowers and script fonts but that is less relevant)
  • i bought a ceramic coffee mug at world market years ago and it makes me look like a productive coffee-drinker because no one knows it’s full of hot cocoa
  • i don’t know why drinking coffee makes you look busy it just does even though i’m pretty sure it statistically reduces productivity
image
  • bonus: not only does no one know i’m just drinking Depression Chocolate but they think i am being Environmentally Conscious rather than Poor As Shit
  • extra bonus: i can take a sip whenever it looks like someone is going to ask a question and then they ask someone else
  • i almost never have to answer questions and i leave the room a lot because i have to pee constantly so double extra bonus
  • “That’s a very good question, and one that deserves an in-depth answer, so if you’d like to leave me your card I’d be happy to discuss it with you later one-on-one” aka “how DARE you suggest i waste everyone’s time answering this question right now” aka “lmfao i have no fucking clue what you just said please let me secretly google that okay”
  • bonus: now it seems like you are a sophisticated grownup who assumes everyone has A Card and if they have to settle for writing their email on a scrap of paper you can feel smug about it even though in your heart you know that you are no better
  • i’ve got anxiety and poor impulse control and anxiety about my poor impulse control so i generally say jack shit about shit and this constant silence is often misinterpreted as aloof observation
  • no one knows that my air of mystery is actually a bad case of the shy and i am too shy to correct them so it works out
  • when i’m on my laptop and i don’t want anyone to notice how much i’m dicking around i turn the brightness way down so they can’t snoop without being obvious
  • at least one window of notepad++ with some random html page or css stylesheet in it makes randos assume you are some kind of genius doing some genius shit, unless they are CS major randos, in which case i guess find an intimidating looking excel spreadsheet and hope for the best

For anyone who wants a free pose-able human reference for drawing

The other day I came across this awesome program by accident (I don’t even remember what I was actually searching for, but on the several times I’ve looked for a program like this I’ve had no luck). It’s cool enough that I wanted to share it.

image

It’s called DesignDoll (website here) and it’s a program that lets you shape and pose a human figure pretty much however you want.

There’s a trial version with no expiration date that can be downloaded for free, as well as the “pro license” version priced at $79. I’ve only had the free version for two days so far, so I’m not an expert and I haven’t figured out all of the features yet, but I’ve got the basics down. The website’s tutorials are actually pretty helpful for the basics, as well.

Here’s the page for download, which has a list of the features available in both versions.

There are three features the free version doesn’t have:

  • Can’t save OBJ files for export
  • Can’t download models and poses from Doll Atelier (a sharing site for users; note that the site is in Japanese, though)
  • It can’t load saved files

The third one means that if you make a pose, save it, and close the program, you can’t load that pose/modified model later. You have to start with the default model. I found that out when I tried to load a file from the day before (this is why reading is important…). Whether saving your modifications (and downloading models and poses) is worth $80 is up to you.

But, the default model is pretty nice and honestly if all you’re looking for is a basic pose reference it should work fairly well as it is. Here’s what it looks like:

image

There’s a pose tag that lets you drag each joint into place and rotate body parts. The torso and waist can be twisted separately, and it seems like everything pretty much follows the range of movement it would have on an actual human.

image

Even the entire shoulder area is actually movable along with the joint! See, like how the scapular area of the back raises with the arm:

image

The morphing tag is one of the coolest features, in my opinion. It lets you pick and choose from a library of pre-set forms for the head, chest, arms, legs, etc. It has some more realistic body shapes in addition to more anime-like ones. Don’t like the options there? Mix a few to get what you want! Each option has a slider that lets you blend as much or as little as you want into the design.

image

So you, too, can create beautiful things like kawaii Muscle-chan!!

image

The scale tag lets you mess with the proportions and connection points of different joints. This feature combined with the morphing feature not only allows more body shape variations, but it also means that you can do things like make a more digitigrade model if you want. (The feet only have an ankle joint, but for regular human poses that’s all that you really need, so whatever.)

image

Or you can make a weird chubby alien-like thing with giant hands and balloon tiddies if that’s more your thing.

image

The ability to pose hands to the extent it allows is far more than I could have hoped for from a free program. Seriously, you can change the position of each finger joint individually, as well as how spread out the fingers are from each other. Each crease on the diagram below is a point of movement, and the circles are for spread between fingers.

image

And to make it a bit more convenient, there’s a library of pre-set hand poses you can pick from as well, and then change the pose from that if you like.

In both versions, you can also import OBJ files from other places for the model to hold, like if you wanted to have them hold a sword or something.

Basically, this program is awesome and free and you should totally check it out if you want a good program for creating pose references.

I just wanted to add a little more to this. If you have trouble figuring out how light sources work in your drawings this also allows you to choose where to have a light source.

image

That shaded ball on the left is your light source. You can see how moving the point changed the shadow cast.

image

Oh and all those other nifty looking things in that bottom bar there, yeah it’s what you think. You can change the model color to one of these presets or even customize your own palette.

image

Plus for all you lovely people who want something a little more simplified to use as a pose reference

image

You can turn your model into the classic wire frame.

Why reblog this? Because for more visual creators, this will be like the lumberjack discovering chainsaws. “Reblog to save lives” as the saying goes.

Yesssssssss thank you @cupcakesandfucks

@hannibalsketches remembered that I had this reblogged somewhere and also @thegaypotat if you ever forget this

POKEMON SUN AND MOON SHINY CHAINING GUIDE

everybodylovespokemon:

princessharumi:

So I just tried SOS Shiny Chaining and its super easy so I thought I’d do a really quick guide to help explain how to do this. This method is confirmed to work in the Pokemon SM Guidebook. Please excuse my bad phone photos LMAO

Things you’ll need before starting:

  • Adrenaline orbs (These become available for purchase after you beat Kiawe’s trial in the second island)
  • Potions, Ethers, Status healers (Antidotes, Paralyze Heals, etc)
  • A Pokemon with False Swipe
  • A full team of Pokemon with lots of moves that only hit one Pokemon (So don’t use stuff like Razor Leaf or Earthquake, etc.)

Okay now that you have your supplies head to wherever it is the Pokemon you want to shiny chain lives in. I wanted to chain for Pichus so I went to Route 1.

image

So when you find your Pokemon the first thing you want to do use your Adrenaline Orb. What it does is raise the chances of the wild Pokemon calling for help, and this is what we need.

image

Once you did that go ahead and False Swipe it to get it to 1HP. Now, this is where the chaining comes in.

image

What you want to do is leave the 1HP Pokemon alone, go ahead and attack its friend and faint it and repeat this over and over and over.

But Harumi, sometimes when it calls for help, help doesn’t come or it doesn’t call for help at all that turn, what do I do then?

This is super easy, yeah sometimes even with the Adrenaline Orb it doesn’t call for help or help doesn’t come. What you do is go to your bag and get an item like Antidote.

image

No my Dartrix isn’t poisoned but what happens is, it’ll try to use the Antidote and then the game tells me it has no effect because my Pokemon isn’t poisoned, and a turn will be used up, and no, you don’t lose your Antidote either ! It’s still in your bag. So this just eats up a turn without you having to attack anything and the wild Pokemon will try to call for help again.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE TO REMEMBER !!!!

You don’t want the 1HP Pokemon to run out of PP. Because when it does it will use Struggle and this causes damage to itself and it will faint, ending the chain if there’s not a second wild Pokemon there. So after a few turns just False Swipe its friend and then knock out the original 1HP Pokemon to prevent this, very easy.

image

If you’re patient, you’ll find a shiny :D This girl only took me 40 minutes !

image

Hope that helped you guys <3

Gotta get my shiny collection again after Asriel destroy my game. Going to try it!
